About the event
American culture frames stress as a personal issue, something to be managed. But how do stressful events impact our capacity to thrive in community systems? Join journalist and health advocate, Rachel Kanarowski, for a hands-on session to map out your own nervous system. Together, we’ll learn how to recognize the warning signs of chronic stress, techniques for selecting effective activities for stress first-aid, and why we all need to make a self-care plan before burnout strikes.
About the Speaker:
Rachel Kanarowski is a journalist, organizational consultant, and certified mindfulness facilitator trained at UCLA’s Mindful Awareness Research Center. She was awarded the designation of Trauma-Informed Care Champion by the Chicago Department of Public Health for her volunteer work building and delivering a staff well-being program focused on evidence-based mindfulness and community care. In 2019, she founded Year of Living Better®, a consultancy focused on transforming workplaces from systems that increase stress to systems that enhance well-being. Her clients include the National Institutes of Health, Google, and the American Lung Association.
