Job Description

The Urban Agriculture Manager will play a leadership role to increase the impact of existing and new social enterprise ventures focused on teens, young adults and urban agriculture. The purpose of the social enterprise initiatives are to develop enduring improvements in areas as such as education, employment and health outcomes for diverse youth ages 13-24 and their communities. The ideal candidate will have an entrepreneurial mindset and apply management techniques from the non-profit, for-profit or the public sector to create and scale up social enterprises developed by and for youth to fulfill the GCYC mission. The Urban Agriculture Manager will derive these opportunities by leading a consistent team of adult staff, young adult apprentices and teen participants on the day-to-day management of the GCYC network of outdoor learning environments, including a ¼-acre intensive rooftop garden, a sustainable campus with a culinary garden, and about 2 acres of orchard and urban farm land.

Job Type: Full Time

•Bachelor’s degree in sustainable agriculture, agribusiness, horticulture, environmental science, social enterprise, project management or field related to sustainable agriculture or social enterprise preferred.
•7-10+ years of professional work experience building and managing ventures in urban agriculture, local food systems or social enterprises.
•Extensive experience working with teens and 18- to 24-year-olds.
•Effective and accountable project management experience required.
•Proven track record leading medium to large scale operations in organic agriculture or related field.
•Lead and collaborate with internal and external professionals to provide continuous innovation that serves the GCYC mission.
•Excellent organizational and communication skills, with a strong attention to detail.
•Ability to multi-task, troubleshoot and problem solve effectively.
•Demonstration of cultural competency and dedication to working with the students, families and community members in our care.
