Job Description


826CHI is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting students ages 6 to 18 with their creative and expository writing skills, and to helping teachers inspire their students to write. Our services are structured around the understanding that great leaps in learning can happen with one-on-one attention, and that strong writing skills are fundamental to future success.

The Position

**This is a one-year position at 826CHI through AmeriCorps. The position has a term of August 2017-August 2018**

826CHI will work with an AmeriCorps VISTA member to support development initiatives centered around donor and data management. Throughout the year, the Student Impact and Data Coordinator will help establish a system of best practices for tracking and archiving student, family, and teacher data; evaluations; and program attendance. Additionally, they will help expand 826CHI’s base of support through grant research, proposal writing, reporting, and donor management. 826CHI seeks someone with a passion for expanding access to creative youth development in Chicago. This person should be a strong writer, highly detail oriented, analytical, and able to thrive working both independently and with a team.

Key responsibilities

Research and identify new sources of funding and support grant reporting

-Identify, research, and submit letters of inquiry and proposals to potential foundation or corporate supporters, help maintain a grants calendar, and support funder site visits.

Support donor management

-Manage Salesforce donor database, support communication with existing donors, track contributions, and manage donor acknowledgements.

Support the development of 826CHI’s Annual Report

-Work with Executive Director, Director of Development, and freelance graphic designer to manage timeline, creation, and distribution of 826CHI’s annual report.

Support data collection and management

-Work with programming and development staff to build a system for collecting student and family data, including attendance across 826CHI programs.

-Work with programming and development staff to build a system to track the schools and teachers served.

-Work with Executive Director to create archival policy for handling students permission slips, attendance sheets, student applications, and surveys.

Manage program evaluation materials

-Work with programming staff to implement, track, and report program evaluations on a quarterly schedule.

-Work with the Director of Programming to develop grade-based rubrics for student writing based on The826CHI Way.

-Collect exemplary writing samples for 826CHI website and archive.

The Student Impact and Data Coordinator reports to the Director of Development, and is a member of the External Affairs and Programming Teams.

Qualifications and skills:

BA required

Strong writing and research skills

Detail oriented, organized, analytical and able to multitask

Experience with grant writing, evaluation, and data management

Outgoing, personable, and with a good sense of humor

Spanish language skills a plus

Education Requirement: Bachelors
