Job Description

The grant writer/development coordinator will secure and manage foundation, corporate and government funding to support the programs and services of Franciscan Outreach. Responsibilities include: 1) Manage foundation and corporate grants process, from prospect research through outcome reports; 2) Manage government grants and reports; 3) Prepare monthly grant analysis schedule; 4) Work with program staff to maintain a databank of outcome statistics; 5) Create and produce communications including human interest stories for grants, newsletters and website/social media; and 6) Assist with special events and other projects.


Grant Writing
Researches foundations, corporations and government grant opportunities to identify likely prospects and areas of potential interest
Works closely with program staff to gain a thorough understanding the services provided
Develop and manage relationships with funders
Requests grant applications as needed
Writes and prepares Letters of Inquiry, matching requests to the interests of grant makers
Writes and prepares grant applications and supporting materials to meet grant deadlines
Writes grant thank-you letters, intake forms, and reports
Prepares grant attachments, such as charts and outcome reports
Maintains calendar of all grant-related deadlines
Prepares monthly grant analysis schedule

Statistical Data
Works with program staff to gather and update a databank of outcome statistics for use in grant requests and reports, as well as other fundraising and promotional activities
Identifies and works with program staff to implement any new areas of outcome reporting that would be supportive of fundraising efforts

Interacts with guests and program staff to monitor emerging and evolving programs and services
Creates compelling human interest stories for grants, newsletters, website, social media and other areas of communication
Produces stories/photos and content as needed for social media campaigns and appeal letters

Assists with special events, publicity, and projects as needed
Other duties as required

Skills needed

Previous grant writing experience is required; Excellent grants management skills; High-level writing, proof reading and grammar skills; Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail; Ability to interact verbally with grant makers, staff, and guests; Ability to track deadlines, plan work accordingly, and complete multiple projects simultaneously; Ability to work independently and as part of a team; Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel; Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field; Empathy for individuals who are homeless.
