826CHI is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting students ages 6 to 18 with their creative and expository writing skills, and to helping teachers inspire their students to write. The Role:

The Communications Coordinator works closely with the Communications Manager to support 826CHI’s messaging across a wide range of platforms, ultimately increasing volunteer and donor engagement while shining a light on the creative work of our magnificent student-authors. This involves creating both written and visual content for 826CHI’s website and social media platforms, as well as supporting the organization’s traditional media efforts.

Key Responsibilities:

Consult Editorial Calendar to create visual and written content to highlight program happenings, events, fundraising appeals, important deadlines, holidays, and special 826CHI features

Work closely with all departments to gather news for regular dissemination

Create content for and manage 826CHI’s social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Flickr)

Compose 826CHI’s monthly e-newsletter

Maintain 826CHI’s website and regularly write blog-style updates using a Content Management System (ExpressionEngine)

Create and execute promotional campaigns for each event and fundraiser, often working closely with the Communications Manager and volunteer graphic designers, copywriters, and web designers

Represent 826CHI at a variety of literary outreach events each year

Oversee 826CHI’s photo management system and take photographs at all events

The Communications Coordinator reports to the Communications Manager, and is a member of the Development team.

Skills & Qualifications:
Qualifications and Skills:

BA required

Proficiency with Photoshop, InDesign, and/or Illustrator required

Understanding of basic HTML

Understanding and embrace of 826CHI’s brand and voice

Exceptional communications skills, both written and oral, including public speaking

A strong work ethic, collaborative spirit, and the ability to manage and keep organized multiple independent projects successfully

Outgoing, personable, and with a strong sense of humor

Enthusiastic belief in the mission of 826CHI

Education Requirement: Bachelors
